I hope all is well…I have to say that all the outpouring of aloha and kokua has been heartwarming and overwhelming.
In regards to the event, I am happy to report that the details have been confirmed. We will be holding the event Kona Winds on:
Wednesday, December 3, 2008
at the Willows Restaurant
from 5 – 9:30 p.m.
cost will be $45
Heavy Pupus, Entertainment, Silent Auction, Raffle Drawings
For those of you wondering why ‘Kona Winds’? Being from the Eastside where the surfing conditions are normally onshore and windy, whenever there was kona winds, you knew it was going to be the ‘perfect conditions for good surf, good friends, and good times’. And we’d literally do whatever it took to be there, call in sick, play hookie, whatever! Likewise, my hope is that this event will provide the perfect conditions for old and new friends to drop everything to come together for a good time.
I’ve attached a copy of the flyer/poster for your use and information. Please pass this on to those closest to you, and/or those you think would be interested. The flyers are currently being ordered, and will be distributed as soon as they are available. We will also be printing 11″ x 17″ posters for display. Again, we would like to extend invitations to ANYONE who’d be interested in having a good time for a good cause. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard people tell me that they don’t know any surfers…well have them come so they can meet a whole bunch of them! And, with Christmas around the corner, there will be lots of goodies for sale that would make the perfect gifts. And I apologize in advance for any errant omissions and/or mistakes on the flyers.
We also just received the tickets. Tickets should be available starting 11/10/08, at the Willows and Hope Chapel Kaneohe’s Bookstore, and we will be accepting cash or check only. Inquiries will also be taken at konawinds@mail.com, and we will be coordinating the distribution of the tickets to be sold by individuals as well.
I know there have been quite a few inquiries regarding cash donations. We have just received word that starting tomorrow cash/check donations can be made at any First Hawaiian Bank branch to the “Friends of Todd Murashige”. At the event we will be accepting credit card purchases for the silent auction, raffle, and sale items. Thank you to Lois Murakami, and Darin Mijo for all your hard work and prayers!
Richard Peralta has graciously, and generously taken responsibility for the entertainment portion of the event. He has signed up Marcus Rivera and Friends, Kapakahi, Island Groove, and Guidance who will each be playing 45 minute sets running from 6 – 9 p.m. Richard, please let me know what requirements/concerns you may have in regards to power for your equipment, and the logistics involved with setting up and breaking down.
For those donating items for the silent auction/raffle, we would like to have all items in hand by 11/15/2008, so that we can begin to inventory and prepare the items for the event. If any of you know of other business, organizations, or entities who are interested in giving, please inform them of this date. So far Jimmy Nakano, and Wendell Kong have offered to be contacts in rounding up your donations, but if there are more willing and able people, please let me know…the more the merrier.
For those making beverage donations, I’ll be meeting with the management at Willows to see when they can begin housing your donations for the event. If possible, could you quantify the size of your donations (# of cases, kegs, etc.)? I’m hoping to work with them on how we can best utilize these donations. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
And for those who have offered their time and service, my wife Julie, will be contacting you shortly as we begin organizing, staffing, and coordinating the manpower necessary for the event.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I apologize in advance if I miss your call, and I’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as possible. Again, thank you so much for ALL your aloha. As always, we look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in the very near future and at the Willows!
